Showdown: is the Xbox 360 price cut desperation or boldness?

I'd say, price cut in EU = desperation. Price cut in JP = desperation.

But in the US, where the 360 enjoys sizeable lead that the PS3 is starting to chip away at, price cut = making sense.

In Europe and Japan, price cuts probably wont do much to the big console picture. But in the US where the PS3 is gaining fast, a price cut is a good way to deliver exactly what MS needs: a slowdown of the PS3.

Will it work? I think 360 will > PS3 for about 2 weeks in US immediately after the cut. Then nothing until maybe Gears 2, but even that's no gaurantee.
