I don't mind the blue shell too much, I do think it should be like it was on N64 though, when it followed the middle of the track before homing in on first.
That way it might take out others on the track.
OR... perhaps it also has an effect on 2nd and 3rd, but to a lesser and lesser extent.... like for 2nd place it takes the items and spins them, and for 3rd it takes any equipped items.
The thundercloud does suck because when you get it you are usually in 3rd or 4th with a huge gap to the next player in front.... It's the only item that is more likely to be a disadvantage than an advantage.
