But not if compared to the other plataforms. While n64 greatest weakeness was the cartridge choice, the wii has a perception to the public as a worse plataform. It maybe very powerful, but that´s the perception. There a two powerful reasons to wii success, the mistique around the new joystick and the price, as it´s the cheaper console. In my humble opinion, the price is the main reason, as 299 is very cheap for a new gen console.
If for any reason, the ps3 price droped and nintedo didn´t act in the same direction, they would be selling similar numbers.

Wii was selling for a profit from day one and still sells at that same price. The PS3 was selling for a huge loss at launch and has had many large price cuts in under two years. How is it you figure that Sony is going to be able to put any price pressure on Nintendo in the next three years?

There is no price cut either of the HD consoles could make that Nintendo couldn't match; their units cost less to manufacture on day one, and will have benefited from much greater economies of scale. The reason Nintendo hasn't participated in the price cut derby up until now is that they have been selling Wiis as fast as they can make them.

Now this isn't saying that Nintendo won't match price cuts as the cost of the other consoles gets closer (see Xbox), but I can guarentee you if wiis start selling slower and Nintendo determines its a price issue, there will be a price cut on the Wii that the HD consoles couldn't possibly match.

Man, you got me wrong. The wii can be matched in price. The x360 is sellig it´s cheaper sku bellow wii price, only because that´s not hurting nintendo sales. In the minute they sense they´re not selling enough, they will cut the price. I think that they can put the wii at a $129, easilly. They won´t because it´s sold out at $300.

My point was, when you compare the ps3 and the wii, the big difference between their sales is price. If the wii and ps3 were at the same price, ps3 would be selling 20%-10% less than wii, not 50%, or 66% like in Japan.

If the Wii and PS3 were the same price then either (i) PS3 won't have a Blu Ray drive built in, won't have cell and would not do 1080p resolution and would not have graphics to match 360 or (ii) Wii would have a HD DVD drive built in, would have the most amazing motion controller ever (Wii Motion plus won't even be able to compete) and would have the graphics at least as good as 360.

If I could fly then I would be using my skills to make money rather than typing this from my desk at work.  If today was Saturday then I would be out having fun rather than being stuck at work.

IF ONLY SONY FANBOYS WOULD STOP BANGING ON ABOUT THIS PRICE ISSUE.  I FEEL LIKE BANGING MY HEAD ON A WALL EACH TIME I HEAR IT.  If the executives at Sony were so arrogant and short sighted as to think everyone that bought a PS2 would buy a PS3 irrespective of the price and would get two jobs to do so then that's their problem.  Let's stop living in a fantaasy world.  The reality is that Wii cost $250 and PS3 costs whatever the heck it costs.
