The Sims (Doll House Game), Animal Crossing (Life Simulation), Harvest Moon (Farm Simulation), Nintendogs (Pet Simulation), Guitar Hero (Musical Game), DDR (Dance Game), Railroad Tycoon (Model Railroad Simulator), Sim City (City Simulation), and Civilization (History based Strategy Game) are all games created from ideas that had people claiming there was no value because they had a 'very small target audience' ...
Up until recently, who would have thought that a surgery or attorny game would be popular enough to justify their development costs.
I'm not saying that my game ideas are particularly good, but I would lay money that I could develop all of my game ideas for less than the cost of a mid-range PS3 and XBox 360 game and probably sell more games; someone like Miyamoto (who has created tons of games that were unconventional at the time) could probably come up with enough ideas to keep the Wii with a steady supply of unconventional games for years to come.
