People Choose the mascot. Not the company. Sega decided that it's mascot was going to be Alex Kidd at one time. People didn't like Alex Kidd but they sure liked Sonic the Hedgehog.
OT I just can't get past the name Sackboy. It's horrible regardless of how good or bad his game is.
