I used a HDMI to DVI cord on my 19" LCD because I couldn't afford to get an HDTV at the time. When I set the PS3 to 1080p, an image actually showed up and the aliasing was pretty good when I played games, so you should be fine.
I just don't understand how 1080p could possibly be interpolated from a 1440x900 resolution
