I think he's referring to the fact that most gamers still buy their console and games in the store, and that even though they might have plenty of PS3's in their warehouses, it'll be considered "sold out" if you can't even pick one up in the shop itself.
If I go out all over my town and can't find a wii, it's sold out. I couldn't care less that a shop has some more in their warehouse, because that doesn't mean I can get one at that time.
