It already has 1.65M in Japan, and should end at 2.5M or something, perhaps slightly less. 2-3M lifetime.
In Americas, it has sold 2.8M. I see it ending in the 5.5-6.5M range when all is said and done.
So overall, I see it like this:

Japan / 2M / 3M
Americas / 5.5M / 6.5M
Worldwide / 17M / 20M
So to answer the OP - yes, I see it beating GT3 with ease, as a matter of fact - it could beat every Ps2 game.
It could become the best selling 3D, non sim, game ever.

That's way too much. For it to sell 9-10 million in PAL it would have to sell a copy to nearly ever Wii owner there. MK Wii is an amazing game and all but there's no way something like that's gonna happen.
