According to an interview by Joystiq: "Around 50-ish. There'll be an interlinking story, too, so it's not just a random selection of levels."
Now I know there's more than enough threads on LBP out there already. But I was reading through this interview and this portion caught my eye. I've often seen the complaint that LBP won't have a storyline. Why exactly a 2d platformer now needs a storyline I don't know, but rest assured that there is a story, and the levels are not just random smatterings of whatever the developers cared to design in order to teach you how to play the game.
