IMO SONY needs a powerful machine for PS4 -- but one that takes advantage of PS3's current design.
The biggest upgrades for next-gen are going to be WiFi speed (802.11g to 802.11n), RAM (4gb - 8gb ) and Drive Speed (2x blu-ray to 16x blu-ray).
To add to that if SONY ends up designs a good OS that manages to provide a unified and standardized experience then PS4 will be an excellent console, considering that SONY should be aiming to launch PS4 @ $399 or $449 at the most...
