We will see in the next few months, but I think MS can get at least 1.5 mil. this generation. MS would probably be satisfied if they ended this generation selling as well as a "respectably losing" console, aka N64/GC/PS3. If they keep announcing new jRPGs, they could probably do 8k a week. They are getting into that region selling 5k/week with no big releases. At 2k or less, that's when the Japanese consider it as a big joke like the Jaguar or Original Xbox.
The PS3 is doing about what the Gamecube did. The one big difference, though, is that the Gamecube was $150 most of the time while the PS3 is $400. Even though the DS and PSP are in competition with one another, there are enough differentiating features between the two that both can do decently. Once Sony made the PSP slimmer and more inline of the desires of the Japanese consumer, h/w sales skyrocket. Slimline + FF13 + $300 for the PS3, and I think it can do 20-30k per week, if Sony first party can release some more jRPGs. 6 - 8m is my expectation for the PS3 at the end.
The Wii is doing well and I expect around 20m-25m, like the PS2.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
