Thats one way to interpret what that sign means. Or it could mean that the actual unit itself is not for public release and intended to be used only by certain approved people. One of those actually makes sense while the other requires you to read a bunch into the sign and look for implications that make absolutely no sense. Your call I suppose.

It's like I said, Nintendo is a company which is very leery about their proprietary stuff.

As is well known, Nintendo requires developers to have actual COMMERCIAL office space. The reason, as I gleaned from talking to a Nintendo rep, is that they don't want anyone but actual employees of the company around their development hardware.

Like I mentioned, I suppose Nibris won't get in any trouble for showing pictures/video of the kit (Nnooo did it as well in a magazine, even) but I don't think it's unreasonable to say Nintendo doesn't like it.

Miyamoto had a hand in the development but he didn't make the game.  I'm trying to minimize his roll in the game, but by far the vast amount of the effort in that game is due to Retro.  It would be a completely different game (for better or worse, who knows) if anyone else besides Retro made the game.  I happen to know people that work there and they had a large amount of creative control in the game.

So yes, the comparison is still fine.  You asked for a studio that has never made a game before and guess what, they hadn't.

It's funny you talk about Braid's long troubled past.  Why?  Because you're thinking Sadness will be terrible because all it's troubles.  Why is Braid different from Sadness?  Because you think the guy who made it is rich (getting 180k in loans isn't real hard, paying it back is the hard part)?

As for how hard you think Sadness is hard to develop, nothing in it is particularly difficult.

20 hours?  With the amount of time they've had, no problem.
10 ending? Again, they've had time so nothing special
Art style?  As long as they have good artists, they're fine.
Story?  Again, good people, good story.

I'm not saying Sadness is going to be amazing, I'm just saying your points are idiotic.

Well I work for a studio that has made Wii games but the easiest way to show you how silly you are:

So yeah, there is nothing against showing a dev kit and I completely fail to see the logic why you would even think that.  So before you state a fact and then try to defend that fact still knowing nothing, do research.

Blue section:

Don't brush aside the facts about Rare and Silicon Knights. With Nintendo, their games were excellent. Subtract Nintendo from the equation and the games of both have taken a notable PLUNGE in quality.

Don't you remember early screens of Metroid Prime which were given extremely negative press? After that, Nintendo cracked down on them, demanded their other project be cancelled, and that they focus all their resources toward MP.

This is a company Nintendo purchased because NINTENDO ITSELF saw the potential in them, and yet they still needed to pound some sense into them in order to get the desired results.

Nibris doesn't have the wise, time-hardened hand of Nintendo to guide it. This, coupled with the fact that you don't see Nintendo running out to buy their company because of the potential Nintendo sees in them and I see no reason why Nibris should be grouped into the same category with Retro, especially with Rare and SK floundering and failing without Nintendo's guidance.

Nirbis won't have Miyamoto there to tell them how to better manage their resources or that their game isn't up to snuff.

Green Section:

Unless Nibris has SERIOUSLY revised their earlier hype (which would be an excellent idea on their part) then Sadness doesn't compare to Braid because Braid is roughly a fifth as ambitious as Sadness.

Do you honestly think Sadness has been in development this whole time? Nibris didn't even acquire licensed dev status until somewhat recently, and if you're a programmer, you know what a horrible idea it is to write code without proper specs in hand.

So 20 hours of gameplay + 10 different endings + motion-based gameplay concepts + proper atmosphere = no big deal to you?

I don't know how to say this without coming off as being rude, but the development of a game with all of this, is a big fucking deal.

The last game that offered me 20 hours of gameplay that didn't drag and get boring was Twilight Princess, and it had a very linear story path, its motion controls were limited, it spent close to 5 years in development and had one of the very best and experienced teams creating it.

And while I liked it fine, many call it one of the worst Zeldas in the series.

It's criteria like this which makes any hope Sadness has of not being terrible statistically irrelevant.

Red Section:

Yeah, Nintendo isn't revoking developer licenses over this, but what's so illogical about suggesting that they don't like it?

Again, this is the company that told Miyamoto to cease discussing his HOBBIES for fear of having an idea stolen, and need I remind you that Nintendo hunts software pirates with an impressive viciousness.

Like I mentioned in my previous reply, they're quite sensitive about proprietary information.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks
