ok i counted 35 PS1 million sellers in Japan compared to PS2s 18. PS1 sold 4 million less consoles too, it's probably gonna end up around 5 million behind. N64 also had 12 million sellers, and saturn had 1.
That makes for 48 million sellers in the ps1 gen vs. 19 million sellers during the ps2 generation. I'm sure you can find an obvious increase in handheld sales over the same period, but there is clearly not as many people playing consoles in Japan as there used to be. N64 sold 2/3 as many million sellers as PS2 with 1/5 the userbase
edit: this gen we have 7 console million sellers, all on wii.
