Remember that the big boss bug went from looking dull and pixelated to cool and glossy in a single month. They have about six more months of dev time if they want to publish in Q1 '09, and no publisher to yank their chain to prevent them from pushing back that date if they decide to polish the game up more.
High Voltage is trying to use this game to spring out of the minor leagues and into the majors. They are very motivated to make this game as tight as they can. If this gamble doesn't pay off for them they might not get another chance for a while.
