Isn't it coming to Bluray in September though in Europe? I would expect it to come to Bluray in September in the US as well.
To answer your question though. Yes it would work, PS3 and it's games are region free.
That is why I am learning Kanji. So I can get FFXIII when it releases in Japan. :)
