But not if compared to the other plataforms. While n64 greatest weakeness was the cartridge choice, the wii has a perception to the public as a worse plataform. It maybe very powerful, but that´s the perception. There a two powerful reasons to wii success, the mistique around the new joystick and the price, as it´s the cheaper console. In my humble opinion, the price is the main reason, as 299 is very cheap for a new gen console.
If for any reason, the ps3 price droped and nintedo didn´t act in the same direction, they would be selling similar numbers.

Wii was selling for a profit from day one and still sells at that same price. The PS3 was selling for a huge loss at launch and has had many large price cuts in under two years. How is it you figure that Sony is going to be able to put any price pressure on Nintendo in the next three years?

There is no price cut either of the HD consoles could make that Nintendo couldn't match; their units cost less to manufacture on day one, and will have benefited from much greater economies of scale. The reason Nintendo hasn't participated in the price cut derby up until now is that they have been selling Wiis as fast as they can make them.

Now this isn't saying that Nintendo won't match price cuts as the cost of the other consoles gets closer (see Xbox), but I can guarentee you if wiis start selling slower and Nintendo determines its a price issue, there will be a price cut on the Wii that the HD consoles couldn't possibly match.
