Removal of the emotion chip? That sounds important....what does it do?
Allows for backward gaming, see they basically put the PS2 engine in the PS3 to allow backwards gaming.
Now they are going with a software solution in which you will download firmware to your PS3 and it will allow you to play your games. 360 already does this, which is why not all Xbox games are playable.
With the PS3 they have said at European launch around 1200 titles will be able to be emulated with the software solution and eventually all will be available. This is excellent, actually. I'm glad to hear that they are doing more for less. The japanese are going to rule the world someday ho ho.
Right. 1200 titles sounds like more than enough to satisfy almost everybody. I guess using software for the backward compatibility, instead of a chip would be cheaper and accomplish about 95% of the job,l which is good enough for me.
