Was the NES the closest thing to a monopoly as a system can get?

oh yeah, the microvision had 100% share of the portable cartridge loading system when it came out in the late 70's

on the nes time it was,  competition put that aside ;).

with the snes there were still some lincense agreement but it wasn't so bad as the nes time.

 

 yes competition from sega and nec, not sony, all sony did was see a profitable market with a few small companies and said we can through money at that and take over
