Vagrant Story actually got a perfect score of 40 from Famitsu. It was one of the best original game on Playstation. The fighting mechanist was in real-time and there is a really interesting weapon and leveling system. If I remember correctly depending on the weapon or item you use you would specialize in using it and master new technique. You can also create your own weapon. The cinematic was as good as in metal gear and the story was very good also.
Tactics Ogre on SNES I think is still the best turn-based strategy RPG games ever design on console.
