Sony will be even weaker next gen if they continue to keep trying, they're following Nintendo's trend of the N64 and Gamecube, except I really don't see a Wii in their future.

A lot of people didn't see a "Wii" in Ninty's future.

Just sayin.

True, but Nintendo has always exercised an understanding of the Market Sony never has. Even in nintendo's worst days they never went into the red. Unless Sony is going to create a console identical to the Wii's successor at a cheaper price with more innovation, there's no chance of them recovering. And even then, there is really no reason to think they're capable of such a feat. Furthermore, Microsoft and Sony missed out on the "Casual Gaming foot in the door to Market Dominance" trend, no matter what they do they will be behind Nintendo's lead. The Gamecube for example was Nintendo's attempt to follow in the footsteps of the market and audience that made Sony so successful with the Playstation, however Sony had already too much momentum for them steel the market back no matter how hard Nintendo tried to superficially copy their market strategy.

Will Nintendo be the dominating force forever? Who knows, what I do know is Nintendo is the only company who has been in gaming all seven generations (And before you try to correct me, they distributed the very first Video Game Console, the magnavox odyssy, in Japan during the first generation and released their own Color TV Game series and Game & Watch series the second generation), the only Company solely invested in video gaming, the only Company who has been forced to come to terms with their own dated business idealogies and in response to which completely restructured their company and its vision to adapt, and the only Company actively pursuing means of diversifying and expanding the pre-existing video game market.

Sure Microsoft and Sony will attempt similar revivals, but do you think Nintendo is so short sighted as not to stay one step ahead? Do you think Nintendo is really so naive as to only pursue Casual gaming until someone does them one better? Do you really think Nintendo isn't constantly adding on to and grooming their already formidable "think tanks" of fresh and experienced industry talent on how to keep innovation, change and industry trends in their favor? Do you think Sony really stands a chance of surprising anyone by advertising their industry/market ambitions, strategies and future "innovations" 4-10 years in advance while Nintendo keeps everything a closely guarded secret, not even announcing a game such as Pokemon Platinum until four months before its release?

The problem with a Console like the PS3 that sells itself on "potential" and "future proof" is that in order to do so it has to show all its cards to the industry years in advance. Hell, no sooner had the PS3 came out then we were hearing information about what the PS4 would be.
