Once it happens, there will be an explosion of news. GameTab will have several articles, and eventually every games site will post news about it.
Some may wait longer, until "other" publications post figures which show it has happened. But I think it will all happen roughly at the same time.
With Ninty's qrt'ly results, and announcement of 9m+ Wii's - I think its become obvious to everyone that it will happen soon.

Nintendo won't go the full press release, but you may see a snide comment or two from some execs (i.e. "outselling the competition").
