Yes and no ... It all depends on how far you go back and what you were looking for.
Regardless of what people talk about on web-forums, Nintendo was never not a major player in the videogame industry because their Gameboy line was so dominant. It was really just a matter of time before Nintendo was able to duplicate their success with handhelds in the home console market, or someone else was going to take the handheld market away from them. No one saw the 'Wii' comming, but that doesn't mean that no one thought that Nintendo could become a major player in the home console market again; I personally didn't think Nintendo could 'Win' at Sony and Microsoft's game, and when I saw the TGS2005 video I thought "They did it!"
