@OP: The console Monster Hunters have never been that popular. The PSP ones are so successful because of the local wi-fi play between friends.
Tbh, I think that a slim ps3 + FFXIII will have a similar effect on the ps3's sales in Japan as MH had on the PSP. It won't have quite as large an impact, but it will have a substantial one.

i dont think people really understand the importance of the slim version of things. when did the ps2 make its biggest jump? with the slim version (yes, thats worldwide). the ds? the psp? the ds and psp were not accompanied by price cuts (not sure about ps2).
i think a remodel is the most under rated factor in a system's selling rate.

the boost wasn't that big in Japan for the PS2 slim, and what more important is something that would indicate a long term increase in sales, and I don't there is any evidence for that right now. I don't think you can compare a redesign of a handheld to a redesign of a console considering the handheld you have to carry everywhere with you and the size and weight is a very big part of the reason you purchase it.

this is true. but the redesign of the psp i think will carry over some momentum to a redesigned ps3.
the other thing is that the ps3 is flat out too big. yea its shiny, but the thing is a monster. it pretty much could eat all of my electronics besides my tv.
my pillars of gaming: kh, naughty dog, insomniac, ssb, gow, ff
