Uh dude. Dragons Quest Swords was way more successful then expected... and it's outsold every "rpg" on the PS3.

It was a bland Spinoff of a Spinoff on rails hack N slash RPG.

Wow are u blind? Dragon Quest did NOT do that well AT ALL! look at the darn chart! And the RPG genre is strongest for JRPGs which THE PS# HAS NONE OF SO FAR! The only RPG's period that are on the sytem right now are ports from the 360 so OF COURSE they have not sold that much...

Dude all you are showing is that you have no idea what Dragon Quest: Swords is, or is about.

500K for that game is amazing.

It's a spinoff... not even a spinoff of Dragon's Quest, but a Spinoff of a Spinoff of Dragon Quest.

It's a spinoff of a similar arcade style game that was somewhat popular in japan.

Also, it had a metacritic score of 66.

That game sold amazingly well.

Also the RPG genre is strongest in JRPGs? Uh... no. JRPGs have very little appeal outside of japan. WRPGs have a MUCH bigger market.

The only RPGs that buck this trend are Final Fantasy which is helped by all the hype and giant marketing budgets, and pokemon which is helped by it's universal appeal and pokemon cuteness.

Both of course also helped by brand awareness too.

A new IP WRPG is going to probably destroy a new IP JRPG in sales.

Heck new IP WRPGS usually destroy the sales of loved and established RPGs like Suikoden and Persona.
