Sakaguchi did not come up with the story plots, character designs of any of FF games, he simply directed them. Those awards go to Amono, Tetsuya, and Akido. |
Oh boy, here we go. Alright tiger, gonna have to fill you in.
1.) Hironobu Sakaguchi was the director of all Final Fantasy titles from I to V. You apparently do not know the significance of his role as a creative force in building the player's 'experience' of these games. You vastly overcredit Amano, whose primary work is in illustration and concept art, and Tetsuya Nomura, who didn't even come into any signficant role until Final Fantasy VIII (the weakest PS1 title).
2.) A lot of people give Nomura credit for being an influence in making Final Fantasy a series they loved. He represents a turning point in what made Final Fantasy a series I hated.
3.) I said that Sakaguchi IS SE's roots. He was the creative force and director behind those early great games, particularly IV, possibly the pinnacle of the series next to VI, and though he was not the director for VI, due to the time he spent away in preparation for the Final Fantasy movie (now THAT was a bad move), he did have some influence on that game as well. I don't know why you chose to dispute me on claiming that Sakaguchi was behind the oldschool roots of Final Fantasy, because he clearly and obviously was the guiding power behind the NES and SNES games.
4.) Final Fantasy VIII sucked. Final Fantasy IX was good, right on par with Lost Odyssey. FFIX was also Sakaguchi's last role as producer.
5.) Sakaguchi was not the producer or director for FF X. I also do not feel it was a 'realization' of his potential, as they developers were forced to create a generic game that had as much mass appeal as possible. That's certainly what they did... it was bland, generic, had incredibly awkward religious themes and overtones that just didn't work for the story, the characterization was the worst of the series, combat was dull, sphere grid was monotonous. All in all a failure of epic proportions for the hardcore, but a lauded game for the casual 13 year old RPG gamer. Just because it sold well does not make a great game... Tekken 3 sold really well, but it was pure garbage. FFX was released at the right time on the right console without any competition, with a lot of hype behind it due to the popularity of the PS1 games.
6.) Blue Dragon was not terrible, but I do not consider it among my favorites. It's still better than Dragon Quest. Mistwalker is a new company, and they're going to need time as a team to build some truly great stuff. I consider LO their first real attempt, and for that it was pretty damn good.
