Some people, including myself at a point forgot what gaming is about, the core reason why we play video games, why that playing became concern, concern about the industry that provides us something to play.
Some people forgot what convinced them to try games.
1. No strangers
No one want's strangers in thier homes, this applies to all things strange, gaming began in the public eye for all to see, the arcade theme introduced us to competition without sacrifice and adventure without fear. Interacting through our favorite personas in thier enviornment. Gaming became familiar and now consoles had a place in the home. Here it was all about presentation and continuity, the game had to do the job.
2. My pal
Even then value takes a toll, games with multiple ports allowed for 2 player interactivity with the above described details, the arcade feel revisited in the home, games like street fighter and mega man, like mario and pac man, and sonic and so on convinced people that the value was there. The multiplayer concept started here, the want for randomness was asked for the most around this time frame which continues today as 'great AI'.
It's that simple, we play games because we want to have fun, because we want to have fun with others and because we are familiar with games is why we care about the gaming industry.
So where in all of that, do the margins come in to play, where do the demographics apply!? Why are barriers made for people who play certain games, why compartmentalize gamers and build a fence around yourselves?
Since when did Nintendo having Mortal Combat stop Sega owners from enjoying thier Mortal Combat.
This may all be Nintendo's fault =/ They make superb games, that only appear on thier platform... not many people want to own multiple consoles.. to the ones who wanted the values of the HD console more they wanted to see Nintendo go under and not because the Wii is left field but because it could mean Nintendo would become a 3rd party software developer/publisher, just like Sega.
Just my rant/
What got me into gaming was most likely Ninja turtles on the arcade... or that pizza deliver game.
I'm Unamerica and you can too.
