The game DOES work and will eventually do EVERYTHING that D/P can do. It therefore is suitable for this particular thing. The end-user won't see the difference between "real programming languages" and GM.
I plan to transition to ENIGMA, which compiles Game Maker code as C++, is open-source, is cross-platform, and allows me to use C++ code directly when I need to. If you still think GM is a bad language even though in the finished product it will be as fast and flexible as C++, remember it is Turing-complete and as such can encode any possible algorithm.
I have tried to learn C++ but i can't find a tutorial or IDE that produces a stable, non-console window yet. I will probably learn C, C++ or Java when I go to university.
