::chuckle:: From my point of view, what I've seen of your personal tastes, they are horrible. If you are really unhappy about something, I'll really like it. You should send me a list of your all time most hated games. They'll probably be the most fun games I'll ever play. I could not be happier that Metroid went first person. The Prime series is of my all time favorite games. For those that don't like it, well, move along, find something else you like to play instead. A very large number of people enjoy the games the way they are. I would hate life if all these wonderful games, that I enjoy, and many other people enjoy, never came to be, because a few people don't like them and are outspoken. whine, whine. Then don't buy them and move on. No game will please everyone. Though, I'm not saying I could never enjoy Metroid in any other persective. Personally I think a 3rd person view would also make for a very fun game. I don't think it's a bad idea to try. |
I've actually got generally exceptional taste in video games :P It's just I spend ALOT more time than one normally would enjoying many, MANY, aspects of a game general people might not find interesting. I believe a major part of that is what ruined metroid prime to me.
If your ONLY enjoyment out of the Metroid series was the exploration, then sure, I guess prime is "ok". But Metroid was much deeper to me than that, sure that was an awesome part of it, but metroid fulfilled certain area's of gaming that I simply couldn't get elsewhere, thinks like skilled wall jumping to climb a 400 foot corridor, things like mini-bombing to climb 8 stories up to get a treasure you weren't supposed to get, how about the good ol' grappling beam? Was the point of it to actually get places? Sure it was! But I enjoyed it for much more than that, how about shortening it to this minuscule length and like circling the stupid grappling dot like 8 million times :P or spinning around and shortening it just before you hit an enemy, to sort of "fake him out" in your mind. It's the stuff of legends in my book. Metroid prime series cut the crap, and pretty much just slammed you with exploration and shooting, which was PART of metroid to me, but not the entirety, it was all the simple but beautiful things that kept me hooked, that, and those awesome friggin abilities which they abandoned on the prime series :P But hey! You get what I'm saying :D
In my opinion, Metroid prime should have found someway to be in third person for everything but shooting, then somehow switch back to first person with the hud for the shooting bits, so that you get a feel for the panic and excitement of the random enemies and such. But as is, in all first person, the exploration took a massive hit, the platforming is vile, and many of the things that made me fall in love with super metroid are non-existent. No awesome abilities just doesn't work for me. Man needs more than a morph ball.
From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.
