Jeremy Hinton, Xbox Group Product Marketing Manager, says Microsoft has been very pleased with recent sales of the Xbox 360 since the price drop on July 2, which was timed to coincide with retail's annual catalogue-driven stocktake sales.

"We've seen a massive increase in Arcade sales in July," says Mr Hinton. "It has easily been our top selling console since the drop. It's a great console for families wanting to jump into the largest catalogue of next generation games."
In the first six months following the Xbox 360's launch in Australia in 2006, the "Core" bundle without a hard drive (which the Arcade replaced), represented just three per cent of Xbox 360 sales.

Despite its strong software catalogue, until recently Xbox 360 had been struggling in 2008. Weekly hardware sales figures from GfK had shown Wii routinely outselling the 360 by a factor of four or five times, while Sony's more expensive PS3 was also outselling 360 in most weeks by a slender margin.
But over the past month 360 has enjoyed a slender lead over PS3 hardware sales, although
GfK figures do not include the 35,000 PS3 consoles given away with Bravia televisions in a major Sony promotion during July.
Mr Hinton says July was "our largest on record for the Xbox business and our results are almost that of Christmas last year".
