I get the numbers but maybe it's just me... VGC doesn't keep track of which week software hit a certain number after the 10th week... unless it does and I just haven't seen that function, but I'd figure for an accurate measure you'd need to find the difference of software sales between periods being estimated. However your conclusions sound reasonable to the graphs that were released from the NPD, but I believe those graphs potrayed all three platforms starting at the same time, (setting Xbox360 to 0) But I don't normally apply to this method anyway. so I'll just continue to read... Actually all the numbers share the same issue, granted you said you used the attach ratio to solve for this, but I remember TheSource stating that with an rapidly increasing install base the attach rate would seem lower... but you addressed that also anyway ... +1 for making most of this obvious. Good stuff. I'm only confused about NPD attach ratios being applied to EU... I'm wondering now, I'm not 100% certain but I believe VGC applies the attach ratio each week for All 3 platforms under the weekly updates, you could refference that for EU. |
I'm not sure I quite understand your questions, but I will try to answer what I think that you are asking:
1. EU? I don't know what you mean.
2. Using the NPD attach rate of 7.5 (for North America). The attach rate is for "sold to consumers". The software numbers I am comparing with Nintendo and Sony are shipped or "sold to retailers".
Therefore, using the 7.5 is reasonable, even if the attach rates in Europe and Japan is lower because:
(a) Sold to retailers is GREATER than sold to consumers
(b) Using the logic from (a), sold to retailers in North America would be greater than 7.5
If the attach ratio is lower in Europe and Japan, 7.5 may be reasonable for sold to retailers
(d) Even if sold to retailers is lower than 7.5 in Europe and Japan, if you average it out, it would probably be close to the 7.5 attach rate for WORLDWIDE sales
I hope that clarifies your questions a little bit.
Let me know if you still have any other questions.
