- If I was from EA I would destroy the company and make the video-game world a better place
Right. Gaming would be much better if games like Spore and Rock Band didn't have a huge publisher to fund and promote them.
Yes, EA has been over-reliant on 5 key franchises over the last gen (Madden, FIFA, MoH, NfS and Sims), but lets stop pretending they don't bring anything positive to the gaming world.
Anyways, I'd say that devs will remain wary of cutting PS3 SKUs, as 360 sales have been better, but not enough better. If the PS3 sales sucked while 360 was selling 250K+/month, that'd be one thing... It seems to me that publishers are going to want both versions, but they'll probably also want less overall PS3/360 games.
If either PS3 or 360 suddenly showed it was going to dominate the other, that's when we'd see one of them with tons of de facto exclusives. Right now those de facto exclusives are falling to Wii, and I think we'll start to see PS3/360 only game announcements slow down.
And we're seeing with Haze and UT3 a really strange trend, of PS3 getting timed exclusives. This is likely a combination of PS3's software drought, 360's low sales with plenty of software, and the feeling that games get more press if they're exclusives.
"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."
Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.
