PS3 apparently hasn't gotten out of GC country in japan yet. Kinda surprising considering they lead the world in HD and Blu-ray adoption.

 

They are really into Blu-ray recorders over there, which are similarly priced to the PS3. I don't think we have any here, but they can record all of their HD shows easily.

Yeah, I think blank discs are only about $5 there. I'll have to check when I get there in a month. They had the BD recorders in 2005 when I was there for about $3000, so they have definitely come down. There is a pretty strong video/audiophile culture there. You can still pick up LD players in the regular stores.

 

Oh yeah.  Laserdisc caught on big over there when it came out... it became the main standard for Anime collectors at the time.

Japan has an admiral way of ignoring the rest of the world when it comes to what they like.

Look at the Sega Saturn... or those crazy non Zip compressions they use that aren't anything ever used outside of japan.
