So Microsoft and Pachter are right, I see.

MS, no. Pachter, sort of.

MS wants to compare their complete 31 month ltd sw sales... but that doesn't do much for third parties to look at to see where they should put their next game.

Pachter has been wishy washy, he says one thing to one person and something else to someone else. I'm sure you can research and find Pachter saying anything you want him to say.

Nintendo is also wrong, because they are comparing first 19 months. Because of Y2Y growth, they should measure the same 19 month period.

Which is what NPD did. 13+ compared to 16+ just US. WW Wii would be in the "lead". Just US + EU or JPN and Wii is in the lead.

US by itself for the last 19 months, shows 360 3rd party software edging out Wii by 3 million. Next year Wii will blow this away. (Probably even 2008 12 month period will go to Wii)

Whatever. Each console has its market, and each third party could make games for either one.

I think you got the information mixed up.

Pachter was the one who gave the information about 13mil vs 16 mil.... but it wasn't about the last 19 months, it was about 2008 sales.

So in USA in 2008, 360 has sold 3 million more software (13:16) than the Wii, although I am pretty positive that Wii will have caught and surpassed 360 for 2008 sales soon, because that 13:16 ratio is only for January to end of May... and all that time the 360 had a userbase advantage above Wii.

So Pachter, who may get attacked too much IMO, gave the best bit of information.... he gave numbers of third parties sales in recent months, at about the right time when Wii was just catching the 360 in sold consoles.

In USA... From January 2008 - May 2008
The Wii, with a slightly lower userbase, sold 13 million 3rd party software units.

The 360 with a slightly higher userbase, sold 16 million 3rd party software units.

So 3rd party wise the two consoles are selling almost on par with each other, but Wii is obviously a software selling beast because 1st party sells a hell of a lot more on Wii than 360.... I mean that 16 million includes over 3 million from GTAIV alone.
