@Redspear and Fazz: Final Fantasy VII is why PS1 took off. N64 was is in the lead at first.

The N64 was never ahead of the PS1. It did have a stronger first 6 month in sales(most of which were between sept and Dec in the US or the first 3 months). However in no market did the N64 ever even get near beating the PS1 in install base. The Saturn did beat out the PS1 for a bit but that was because it came out first they announced it at the CES and it was on sale the next day for 400 dollars and not too many people bought in teh US in Japan it was a different story. Also FF7 is not the reason the PS1 took off directly it was the first game to notably use CGI and that amazed people but there was already a growing install base and as I said it was Squares interest in making a larger game.

 I just got PWN't, with a 't'.  I usually don't post stuff off the top of my head... I apologize.  I am working on a paper for school right now, and though I knew something, that I wasn't sure of and posted it.  I am sorry.  The first two parts I still stand by.
