I'm aiming this to resemble as much as i can pen and paper RPG:s, but i warn you, it's been around 20 years since the last time i played one. So let's see how we'll do. I'm going to work as a "game leader" and create real life situations during the play (not going to pull them out of my ass, but something that happens for real publishers and devs in the business world). You work as a director in a just founded publishing/developement house, that is a part of a larger company, so you start out of nothing and you're supposed to plan your business, loan money and hire staff. Because of being a part of larger company, you have to tell the board about your businessplan, and have their acceptance to your projects. But, because of this, it's possible to get credit from a bank. In the beginning, you are awarded with ten "trust points", which will decrease by one everytime you need to change your businessplan, and increase everytime you manage to make decent amount of money. Objectives: Survive and make money. Once you're out of money, you go out of business or once you run out of trust points, you're fired and your game ends. How the game goes: The game is played in rounds and new round starts when the game leader (me) announces new round to start. Every round has a new objective/happening/change/ that affects all players. During one round, you can make various decisions considering your game or business (such as show games in expos/events, invite press), anything that you can make in real life. One post means your actions on one turn, and only one post per turn is allowed. No editing is allowed. One round is one financial quarter. Maximum amount of loan is 100 000 000 "game currency" (one hundred millions) plus interest and maximum loan time is 20 years (80 turns). Interest starts at yearly 4 percent interest (can be changed once a year). Every employee you hire, is going to cost you 10 000 (currency) each quarter. Before your company starts making money, you need to pay every payment from the loan you've taken (wages, loan payments). The progress of your game (the fictional you're publishing), will be measured by its budget. For example, if you have 1M developement budget, your game is ready when it has cost a million during the game progress. You have 3 things you can invest: 1. Marketing 2. Graphics 3. Gameplay Marketing increases the short term sales numbers, graphics leads to "front loaded" games with no legs and gameplay has slow sales, but long legs. After the game has been released, you can still market it, but unless the board already knows this, you are losing one trust point. The press can be called to see your game at any turn, but you need to tell what are showing to the press, so the public can react. Everytime new turn starts, game leader tells publics reactions to your projects (if it has been seen in public), changes in the market and if there's public events available and in general what you can/can't do in the specific round. And, lastly, there are 3 platforms to develope for, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Wii. LTD sales starts at Wii 30M, 360 20M and PS3 15M. Feel free to use the VGChartz database to make projections considering your future game(s) and platform(s) you develope for. Let's hope i didn't forget anything (feel free to ask) and sorry if chapter/paragraph split is missing, it may be because of software incompatibility. Let's start. Round 1: Introducing you businessplan. Hire staff. Loan money. Plan the budget. Tell the board how you're going to advance and your games sales expectations and platform(s).
