| kjj4t9rdad said: Your points are not very well thought out. 1st, I am a parent and I care about HDD and so does my 8 year old. 2nd, arcade rumored price $199, recharge pack $15, 20 gig add on HD (needed to update the system firmware, PRETTY IMPORTANT!!!) $100 or 512mb memory card(won't let you update system) $50, Wireless adapter $100, HDMI conversion kit $90 that's a total of $454 for memory card or $504 for the HDD and no ability to watch HD movies 40gig PS3 $400 80gig w/MGS4 $500 Your right about the PS3 not coming with an HDMI cord, however the only 360 w/ a HDMI port is the Premier (not very next-gen) If you read the post, I said to get a 360 to do what a PS3 does off the shelf. 3rd, Since I've had my PS3 for over a year and a half, and the PS3 failure rate is below 1%, I don't worry about it breaking after 1 year, in fact I don't worry about it at all. in contrast the 360 has somewhere between 25% & 35% percent failure rate. These include power cord problems, the "ring of death", overheating problems, and it scratches disks. and last, Microsoft still counts the replacement 360's as shipped 360's. So in other words, the 20million sold includes all the returned 360's. Also Microsoft offers a FREE 3 month subscription to LIVE which I do believe includes some sort of free game download. That is a pretty good incentive to at least try it out. It just seems funny that the number of failures is pretty close to the number non-LiVE users. Even if the price is $6/month for LIVE $6 x 12months x 7years = $504 If you need sources: prices are from best buy.com, as far as failure rates, just google it, you will have a multitude of sources confirming my statements You should check it out and decide for yourself

To address your points.
Batteries: What parent doesn't have a recharger and batteries at home? Its pretty standard fare when everything takes them nowadays. Furthermore this play n charge kit costs as much as an HDMI cable, so its a wash.
Storage: The Xbox360 uses a firmware to upgrade itself, it doesn't rely on the HDD at all and you can also save your games on the internal memory card, As for the importance of it, I don't know I never bothered to update.
Wireless: The cheapest I have heard is $25 for a D-link adapter and the cheapest I have seen is $45 for a wireless adapter and as an added bonus it offers superior performance to the PS3 wireless so you can actually stream movies etc over it. I have a PS3 and I've tried/Failed.
HDMI: All Xbox360s come with an HDMI port.
Reliability: HDDs have a failure rate thats higher than your given figure. Since all PS3s have a HDD, the failure rate is obviously higher than 1%. To further this point, My PS3 has broken twice - obviously an anecdote and both times out of warranty. Your figures of 25-35% are way overblown besides anything else. The Falcon Xbox360s had decent reliability and the Jaspers are going to be even better. Furthermore the Xbox360 Jasper is probably a "safer" bet than a PS3 due to the 3 year electrical warranty.
Shipment numbers: Vgchartz only tracks retail sales, and if you've stumbled across some huge discrepency please let IOI know.
Live: Xbox live costs $40 per year from Newegg or $3.33 a month and they even offer pretty good parental controls, as a parent you should apreciate that. Or you can pay $50 or $4.16 per month. As an added bonus you can stream 12,000 titles last time I checked from Netflix.
Lastly, my sources are more up to date than yours, check out the Neogaf thread and notice that the numbers of Falcon Xbox360s with issues are in sharp decline next to the older generation of Xbox360s. Furthermore for the older generations Microsoft has developed a new Motherboard design to prevent them from enduring recurring problems in the future.
Tease.
