| horriblebastard said: That's not to say graphics shouldn't progress what-so-ever No, you're quite wrong. Graphics should never progress. This is it now. The Wii has hit the point of graphical perfection and we need to go no further. lol. But when will that game come if no one is taking the risk? People in this thread claim that the Wii's shitty graphics will lead to innovation in other areas. Thing is, when an innovative title like Boom Blox comes out that makes a great use of the Wii Remote, Wii owners ignore it in favour of Mario Kart 94 and Zelda All Over Again. It sold what, 500,000 max with an install base of 30,000,000+. That's piss poor. If good games can't outsell shovelware then the Wii has a pitiful future ahead of it and that game you're telling people to buy in your signature will be the next huge sales failure. Someone even said in this thread that the devs are only predicting sales of half a mil. If that's true, then the core gamers are already abandoning the Wii so if you want more than games like "Toss The Pancake" or "Slice The Cucumber", you better look to another system to provide them. |
How well did Okami, Killer 7, Psychonauts, Ico, and Katamari Damarci sell on the PS2?
Boom Blox has received lower scores (on average) than many of those titles, has seen less marketing than many of those titles, and was released on a system with a far smaller userbase and yet its slow and steady sales pace has it outselling most of those titles.
The 1 Million unit mark is not "The" definition of success ... In particular, if you're focusing on inexpensive titles that are based off of creative gameplay a much smaller number (potentially as low as 125,000) may be considered amazingly successful; a company like EA may look at the sales of Boom Blox at 500,000 to 750,000 as a sign that there is a market for this kind of game, invest more money in a sequel, and then market it more heavily which would result in much higher sales.
Just because Madden 2009 will come out in a few days and sell Millions upon millions of copies over night does not mean that other titles have sold poorly and are not worthy of further development; if it did all we would see on the market would be dozens of Football games, dozens of Sandbox crime games, and dozens of simulation racers ...
