I have a 32" widescreen (or is it 36, can't remember) and I can look straight down the 1 and 2 buttons and see the pointer reticle on the screen right where it should be.
The only time I've ever had trouble was at christmas when the tree was too close to the TV, and the christmas lights were giving off false positives, and when I take it to my Mom's. She has a window right next to her TV, and that causes false positives.
I wasn't aware of the calibration in zelda. All Wii games need to do this.
