Agreed. I never bought this nonsense that people's feeble minds are "confused" by having to choose between a whole two different package options. Unless you were trying to keep up with all the different models worldwide, it was never an issue. And if it somehow was, who cares? It was nothing that a 10-second conversation with a store clerk wouldn't clear up, and it wasn't going to stop anyone from buying ("Oh no, I want a PS3, but I don't know which one to pick! I guess I'll just go buy 300 tacos instead.")
But the simplicity of the multiple sku options depended on having each one clearly differentiated by its harddrive size, and now we're losing that.
I guess the new confusion is already leaving its mark, because they're not phasing out the 40gb -- they're phasing out the 80gb, and upgrading the 40gb's harddrive. Of course, having you think you're getting the 80gb for $399 is exactly what they want...
