ioi - sort of off topic, but I had a thought...
You considered some form of "premium" content? Not premium as in people have to pay for it - but such that they have to be signed in.
A simple one would be to restrict the charts data that is shown (maybe top 20 only, no software overall, etc..).
Nothing too major - but to really encourage people to sign up. Once they are signed up, I think you'll see a lot more of them participating in the threads.
