the U.S. wouldn't have anything to do with this one militarily. Not just because they don't have the resources, but because they're not going to enter a war against Russia.

The UN can't do anything though.

Russia is a permanent member of the security council... and could just veto any resolution put up against itself.

 

I realize the UN has many faults. You may recall they attempted a complete overhaul a year or two ago? It was going to dramatically revamp the U.N and make it a more effective body? But then at the last minute the U.S. ambassador John Bolton derailed it with a gigantic list of amendments designed to weaken it?

 

But anyways, This conflict risks completely collapsing Georgia as a nation. If that happens, yes, I think an agreement can be met to see neutral forces in the region. Even Russia would agree to that depending on the circumstances.
