Sylpheed didn't sell well, no, but it was a dramatic shift in style from scrolling shooters to 3D space sim and received overwhelmingly mediocre reviews. I don't see how 360 owners can be blamed for not jumping all over it. Square was only the publisher, not the dev, btw.
Not sure how you reckon FFXI was a "dismal failure" on the 360. They should have turned some profit off of circa 200k sales + subscription fees, as the port couldn't have been that expensive.
I mean, there's no doubt that MS is grandstanding here. I'm sure Square could ignore the 360. But why should they?
