True, but that's why we leave ultimate judgment and punishment up to god, who has insight and knowledge capable of determining whether it is only fear making them say they are sorry, or whether the impending knell of mortality has actually opened their eyes to the weight of their own actions.

Actually, my personal beliefs are that God doesn't actually judge whether you go to heaven or hell, but your own actions and perceptions upon death are what determine whether you are even capable of recognizing heaven. Hell and Heaven are essentially the same place, but your actions in life determine whether you are capable of interacting with and experiencing it, Hell is simply being cut off entirely from all of this.
