I just think it's interesting how much attention they'll devote to film, with indepth reviews of each movie, cast interviews, reports on box office sales etc, etc, but Videogames are completely passed over despite being the larger industry now in $ terms.

 Sadly the game industry isn't as big as you've been led to believe.  The movie industry is still sadly much larger ;)  Although the game industry is pretty big.  

Yeah the movie industry is set up so that only a few really good movies come out each year, and like, everyone sees them. Whereas, many videogames come out and a small amount of people buy them all.
