Don't forget how console manufacturers have created large marketing campaigns for their consoles which feature third party exclusives ... I wouldn't be surprised if a game like Metal Gear Solid 4 had its exclusivity secured (at least in part) through an agreement with Sony to produce a very large marketing campaign with Metal Gear Solid 4 in it.
