As for PS3,
Lets say the supply issue for PS3 does not exist. Why would anyone buy a 40gb model when an 80gb model is coming out in a month?

My friend who works at Gamestop in King County, go ahead and call any Gamestop in King County and ask: "Where is the closest store that carries an 80 gb Metal Gear PS3?" - 1,340 miles.


Enough with the fanboyism. Yes Xbox 360 will put up amazing numbers, but the abysmal numbers put up by the Wii and PS3 will not be here long term. Some of you guys, wow.

I live in King County. I saw a couple 80GB MGS4 PS3s at Fred Meyer yesterday, and across the street, a couple of Wiis starting to gather dust on Target's shelf (they've been there all week, as far as I can tell). What King County are you talking about? This has no relevance on the discussion, since it is a local observation, but your observation is just Plain Wrong (tm).

I did, however, see a whole gang of people at the local GameStop today going nuts for the new 60GB 360 bundles they just got in. At full price ($349) even. Apparently they have no idea the price is gonna drop in a month, just like I imagine they have no idea a new 80GB version of the 40GB PS3 is coming out shortly. They are consumer sheep, probably not even remotely interested in the industry, or its recent developments, except for the power it has to light up their living room.

The sheep like the new 60GB 360 model, and I think they're gonna love the new 360 Arcade when it hits $199. I'm predicting the PS3 will make a holiday comeback from the recent downslope. Sony has some cards in its hand that just will not stop. I'm gonna hold my cards on the Wii. $50 under the Wii's price is a pretty big deal, especially if you're looking to replace your old DVD player (a PS2), and still play some games.

Its interesting to hear the GameStop sales folks (most of them hardcore gamers, of course) slander the Wii's lineup this year, as well (I wager they have a strong Microsoft bias, due to the proximity of MS). I completely agree with them, of course -- the Wii's holiday lineup is... very unappealing in my opinion (I find this very upsetting, since I have enjoyed my Wii alot until recently). I wonder if that mentality will work its way into the average consumer sheep (i.e. potential Wii buyer) as well?

 

Then again, you can never underestimate the power of Barbie: Horse Riding Adventure, with new Wii-Brush for your horsie, or whatever the next big Wii game will be.

These "sheep" simply don't find following the industry in depth fun. From an economic standpoint, does it make sense to waste several hundred hours follwing the industry in order to accuartly predict price cuts, thus knowing now to buy the 60GB SKU now and saving $50? Only if you enjoy following the industry, as many here do. They arn't blind or stupid, they just have other priorities.
