I love how people are always like "OMG the PS3 is unsuccessful, it hasnt sold 20 Million yet!" when reality shows that it is only a little bit behind the PS2 at the same point in its lifecycle.  You can choose to see it, or you can choose to be ignorant.  Its up to you.

Incorrect.

I assume you're referring to aligning the PS3 and the PS2 sales charts?  You have to remember both console have different yet staggered launch periods.   Try aligning all 3 territories individually for the PS2 and PS3 and you'll it's very different.

Here, I shall do the leg work for you.

Japan:

PS2 - 6.1 million
PS3 - 2.3 million

America:
http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS3&reg1=America&cons2=PS3&reg2=America&cons3=PS2&reg3=America&weeks=156

PS2 - 11.0 million
PS3 - 5.5 million

Europe:
http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS3&reg1=Europe&cons2=PS3&reg2=Europe&cons3=PS2&reg3=Europe&weeks=156

PS2 - 7.0 million
PS3 - 5.9 million

This gives a total units sales for all three major territories for each console as:

PS2 - 24.1 million
PS3 - 13.7 million

The Wii given the same period is at 29.6 million.

13.7 million is more than just a little bit behind 24.1 million.   Another factor to keep in mind, the PS2 sold almost 20 million units before the Xbox and GC even launched.  That gave PS2 a huge advantage that PS3 does not have.
