Funny thing is it keeps selling. Why do people buy into crappy fun? Same reason why we watch action/comic book movies, Watch bad TV, listen to pop or alternative (which is also pop) music. Because it is easy, trendy, fun, accessible, and cheap. I for one love my Wii, even if it is a casual/minigame system. I really want to like the other systems, but the games just don't interest me as much. It's not a lack of hard core-edness, it's that the truly hardcore have been starving for something different for years. (edit: Lair, Bioshock, Haze etc. look really interesting though)
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
