@vaio: Oh, the keyword here is, that the extra fan isn't enough, although it may have saved you from getting the RRoD earlier.
Basically, after you turn the console off, the amount of heat that exits the processor is the same as it is on, for some time (seconds, theorecally even minutes) and the cooling is less than when it was on. Now, it already was "close" to melting point even with the (better than) normal cooling and suddenly the cooling went down, but for awhile it still radiated as much heat as it did earlier.
It's just basic physics.
