Actually the Ms has more ground to stay in gaming than Sony, while MS is losing money as well, they have money to burn, sony doesn't, Sony is actually in quite a precarious situation when it comes to the amount of money the PS3 is costing them and their investors. I guess you can also argue MS has a goal connected with their stake in gaming. Outside of Blu-Ray, I don't see what Sony stands to gain from remaining in the market.
